This is Zion National State Park in Utah. It took 4 nights of shooting before getting these shots. This one has a pixal bender effect added to create a more painterly feel. This is the view the Mormons saw (circa mid-1800s). To them this represented Holy land, sanctuary, "The Promised Land". They settled and lived in the fertile area for only several years, farming and hunting successfully. They had to leave, however, due to the fact that too many large flash floods occured during early spring or rainy times, that would wipe out their fields of grain and cause other major survival problems. Their small communities were on the canyon floor so all the waters eventually found their way down the mountain sides.
